ND/SMC Co-Exchange Program
The University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College maintain a cooperative program permitting students to take fall and spring courses at the neighboring institution. In addition to attending classes, the two institutions share many activities in the area of academics as well as social events, choral groups and music ensembles, student organizations (including a daily newspaper and the Notre Dame marching band) and community service projects.
The following guidelines will apply for all Notre Dame and/or Saint Mary's undergraduate students participating in the co-exchange program:
- Only fall and spring courses are eligible for the co-exchange program.
- For Notre Dame students, department major requirements must be fulfilled at Notre Dame. However, Saint Mary's courses may be chosen from any discipline, including the student's major field. In the latter case, it is understood that the course will count as an elective.
- Saint Mary鈥檚 students are not eligible to earn a Notre Dame major or minor. Notre Dame does not certify on a transcript that a Saint Mary's student has earned a major or a minor.
- Saint Mary's students do not receive a separate transcript from Notre Dame and Notre Dame students do not receive a separate transcript from Saint Mary's.
- The Host Institution shall not charge a student enrolled in one of its classes under this Memorandum any amount for tuition, apart from lab or studio fees. The administration and award of financial aid for the student will be the responsibility and sole purview of the Home Institution, and the student will not be eligible for any financial aid from the Host Institution.
- The student must be a full-time undergraduate student at the Home Institution and maintain full-time status at the Home Institution, and the student鈥檚 class load at the Host Institution shall not be counted toward the student鈥檚 full-time status at the Home Institution.
- Notre Dame NetID related services, which include but are not limited to email, Canvas, and insideND are only temporary for SMC students who are registered for Notre Dame classes. In any semester in which an SMC student is not registered for a Notre Dame class, these services will be terminated and all data purged. Saint Mary's students should use these Notre Dame NetID related services only in the context of the course they are registered for. It is strongly advised for Saint Mary's students to use their Saint Mary's email whenever possible.
